The T.U.B.A published a 4 part article in 1987 by Dr. Frederick J. Young which compared many different valve systems. Intonation errors for all systems were calculated and tabled and it was found that the three-valve compensating system is the most in tune IN ITS GIVEN RANGE. In other words, the pedal register was excluded (due to the limitation of three valves), but in the remaining range, the three valve compensating system showed the least intonation error. The T.U.B.A. journals which included this study are: Volume 13, #4; Volume 14 #1, #2, #3.
