After using Mirafones for a few years with the 2-step valve (first with the left hand 5th and then thumb), I switched to a Getzen with the long 1-step and after some experimenting with fingerings and just getting used to the horn, I don't have many complaints about intonation. The trade-offs being better intonation and consistency through the horn. Also, to the plus side, the majority of 5-valve horns are using this tuning, to better adapt to those, if need, and it's possible to play along with beginning students using BBb fingerings with the thumb engaged(and slide pushed in).
