The pad on my new stand started to tear within a few weeks. I decided to slip on a thick black sport sock (size ten fits nicely ) over the pad to prevent damage to the pad on to my horn. This worked like a charm. The side benefit is that I can empty the spit valve onto the very absorbent sock, keeping the floor beneath clean and dry. The sock gets thrown into the wash when it needs to be refreshed.
