I'm certain we'd all relish the chance to give you suggestions, but we don't even know too many specifics other than the fact that you want a CC. I tried a 5/4 Kalison at Midwest and what the salesman called a warm, cutting sound I called stuffy, uncontrolled, and unrefined (IMO). For versatility, you'd probably best be off with a 4/4 or small 5/4 horn. The new 188s are excellent sounding, smooth, and very resonant and also has a left hand 6th valve (actually just a lever) which controls the now spring-loaded 1st slide, if you like that kind of thing. For a bigger, orchestral horn, Hirsbrunner is an excellent idea, but if you don't have the time or money, check out some of the Rudy Meinls. Also the Boosey and Hawkes' Walter Nirschl 4/4+ model I'm told is quite excellent.
