Well, guess what I found in my mouthpiece junk drawer--a Besson G70 mouthpiece with a large shank. I think I picked this one up about 15 years ago in Austin, Texas, from a music store that was going belly up, for maybe five bucks.

Turns out, this is THE mouthpiece supplied by Besson for the Imperial euphoniums, at least according to the mid-seventies catalog that Klaus scanned for me.

It has a slightly smaller throat than the Bach 3G, and a similar rim, but it is much shallower. (But it's a toilet bowl compared to a 6-1/2 AL.) And, yes, it place the horn about 15 cents sharper than the 3G. It's pretty well in tune--with all the slides all the way in. And it doesn't really sound half bad, either.

We'll see if the Steven Mead mouthpiece that I have on order does as well.
