This is an invaluable post...thanks, Farah!

I was talking with a friend of mine the other day about getting past the first round of an audition, this was just after an audition he and several of my friends took (my horn was lost by the airlines and I didn't get to do it...oh well). He maintains that the surest way to get past the first round is to play in tune, in time and with good style and articulation BUT not necessarily musically stunning (sort of a "cold professionalism" if you will)...saying that lack of accuracy would eliminate a lot of people...but then in the latter rounds is when to really throw it ALL out there.

As a member of the committee, would you say that's an accurate assessment or would you say otherwise? Any and all other opinions are welcome.
