Hello fellow tubists,
I hope someone can give me some information and suggestions on mouthpieces. A friend of mine and I play in a 30 piece church brass ensemble (3 tubas-a St. Pete, my Mirafone 186, my friends Yamaha YBB641). He just got this YBB641 but it came without a mouthpiece, so we spent an afternoon at our church (awesome accoustics) testing the following mouthpieces: Schilke Helleberg, Schilke 62, Wicks 1L, Wicks 3L, Bach 18, the original mouthpiece from the St. Pete (now that was funny!), and my Mirafone C4. My friend really liked the C4 with the Bach 18 a close second. Upon inquiring at a local dealer we found out the C4 is more than twice the price of the Bach! Is this possible, or is the dealer trying to shaft us, and if it IS that much, WHY? Also, any other suggestions for mouthpiece choices? There is no solo work and we are definitely looking for BIG ORGAN-like sound. Thanks in advance for your help, DS
