Ike, if I could take it a bit further, I'd like to put a "plug" in for the Darlings, another Mayberry treasure. As a banjo picker (as well as an amateur tubist), I have had the pleasure of jamming with the Dillards (the Darling' real group name) at more than one Bluegrass Jamboree over the years; all four: 1. Doug Dillard, banjo 2.Mitch Jayne, bass 3. Dean Webb, mandolin 4.Rodney Dillard, guitar, are still"pickin', and grinnin'" well into their late 60's/early 70s. Denver Pyle(Brisco Darling)has passed away, but he wasn't really part of the Dillards... Sorry for diviating from the tuba thing, everybody- I just had to share the Darling's memory and bring a smile to everyone who remembers their hilarious episodes.( Ah, no, Charlene wasn't a Dillard, either...)
