The narrator on Peter Pan 8044 is Johnny Andrews, who was a radio and TV personality. This recording of Tubby seems to conform to the original text and music, so I don't know what would be meant by an "alternate version." Maybe it means "alternate player(s)," in which case the tubist is still unidentified.
