Are you using an older mouthpiece with some of the silver gone? The swelling can also be an allergic reaction to the raw brass. Like you said, the dry weather may have caused you to have a few little cracks on your lips and made you more susceptable. Wash your mpc before you play each time, carry a lip balm, and don't try so hard. Buzzing is not supposed to be work.
