First of all, only you can determine if your life has meaning. Live life the way you want to or feel cheated. Second, you DO NOT need to spend a ton of money on an instrument to be successful. I spent a grand total of $3200 (for a used Rudy Meinl 4/4 CC and a new Yamaha 321S Eb) to buy the equipment I needed to win my current job. Success is something you achieve, not something you buy. Third, DO NOT go into teaching unless you feel a "calling". You need to decide what you want out of life. If teaching is it then jump in feet first and go for it. If playing is it, why try and do something else? Will you ever be happy if your desire is to play but you never tried?
With freedom of choice comes responsibility and the requirement of a personal committment from you. You can make of your life whatever you wish. Grasp whatever future you desire. Good luck!
