If you already study with the teacher you will have in college, ask his/her advice on a horn. If not, call the teacher where you're going to college and ask his/her advice. This person will be listening critically to you for 4 - plus years. Above all, play a lot of horns before you buy. If I had bought a horn straight out of school, it would have been a Mirafone, just because that's what my school had, and I liked them. But I'd never heard of Hirsbrunner or Alexander at that time. If you've already done your homework, and the Mir. is the horn for you, great! Just don't limit yourself to what you have always known.
