Don't think of the oral surgeon as last resort. The care mine gave me taking out a bunch of bad teeth was far better than I'd ever had from a dentist. The job hurt less and healed best. He didn't just attack with a spade and pry hunks of teeth out. He carved carefully and got all the pieces without wrecking stuff.
