When I was looking into buying an F tuba, I had two Yamahas sent. One of them had the same problem you are describing. An instrument repair guy told me the problem was that there were burs on the valve. These burs were from when the piston was made and were causing the valve to stick. I was told that I'd have to have it sent into the shop for the valve to be properly fitted to the casing, and cleaned up a bit. I never did that, I just sent the horn back, so I'm not sure if that will solve the problem, but that's what I was told.

Maybe Joe S. can tell us if this is a possiblity or not?
