The first time I heard this piece, I thought maybe I was having a bad day. I bought the music, studied it, worked on it, etc. Then I heard the piece performed again. It was clear that it was not me but John Williams who was having a bad day.
Not everything a notable composer writes is notable. Not all of Sousa's marches, for example, are worthy of performance. Need I mention the University of Nebrasjka March.
