I emailed the seller the night before the horn went on ebay and I got the exact same story/history in response to my email...judge for yourself:

"The tuba is a 1926
Karl Ziess 3/4 Size, 4 Rotary valve, double B flat tuba. It has been
90% redone. Lots of custom work, including drilled valve casings so
you can use the tuning slides as intonation slides, nylon knuckle valve
linkages, custom key pads and springs, lead pipe tuning as well as
main tuning slide work for US tuning...and much more.
It has a wonderful rich sound and plays very even from high f above the
staff to peddle b flat. The bell has no Lacquer on it but is polished
and I keep it waxed. The horn is 39-1/2 inches tall and has a 17 inch
bell.
the horn condition is pretty much dent less with the exception of one
tiny dent in the lead pipe that doesn't seem to restrict the horns
ability or
sound at all. It comes in a brand new plastic formed hard shell case
w/wheels and a
custom gig bag. I have $2500.00 invested in it and really hate to see it
go."

"FYI: Karl Ziess was famous in Chek. for making
string instruments. He hired to men from Russia whom use to work for
what is now known as the Monel Wesson Co. and they designed his brass
line of
instruments. Funny thing...it looks identical to a Marafone. This is
because they
went on after they got out of the communist country to start Marafone.
This
horn and I go way back....I bought it in 1975 just out of high school
and used it
full time when I was in the US Army Band till I got the new horn.

"...my reserve is less than $2500.00 by several hundred. "

"Mitch P. Angel" is the sellers name
