Guys, let's remember what these programs were designed to do. Finale is a music engraving program that also does sequencing. Ditto for Encore (my personal fav, though it's too old to recommend any more).

Cakewalk is a sequencer that will also do some notation. I have that one, too.

If you want to sequence MIDI, get a sequencer. If you want to engrave music, get music publishing software. Paying for one when you want the other will just empty your wallet.

An example: Professional print publishers (of words, that is) most commonly use Quark. It is publishing software, and will do things like adjustable leading and kerning that you won't see in MS Word. But for the sheer efficiency of keying in words, a word processor is what you need. Sure, you can do simple publishing with Word, and you can type into Quark, but you'll face limitations and compromises in both cases.
