Ooom-pah is a stereotype, much like tuba players all being fat and pimply(Mr Hollands Opus) and as we know "generalisations are always wrong". Tuba players must start somewhere and in lower level band music the Tuba parts are very often ooom-pah rather than melodic. "The harder stuff is always harder" but oom-pah can be very fun and challenging for the advanced player (it just has to be very very fast. but I agree with Willie Clark... don't be ashamed of your heritage and play the music which you either enjoy or are given by your conductor
