There is a big difference between talking about solo literature for tuba and "oom-pah" parts in band or dance band or polka band playing.

"Oom-Pah" parts are not always exciting to play, but if one is going to be a member of an ensemble, then one needs to have the maturity to realize that the overall sound of the ensemble takes precedence over any individual part. Anyone who thinks his/her part is the most important all the time, and it has to be exciting an challenging all the time, is doing his/her fellow players a disservice be remaining in the ensemble.
