I can only comment on the 187. I have used the 186's for a long time and was suspicious of the 187, since it appeared to have the same bore are the 186 BBb, plus a strange rotary control system. But I have been satisfied with it for the past ten years. It has a darker sound than the 186, and is capable of louder projection. The valves are worth comment. They are faster than pistons, so it's possible to pull out the Arban trumpet solos for performance, but they require full tension. It may be the best BBb for concert band use that I have ever played, and I have played many. If you have ever owned a 188 5U, it sounds very much the same. Harry Critchley
