Several months ago, I purchased a Mirafone S 186 five-valve CC tuba from Brasswind for $4495. I am throughly satisfied with this horn. Intonation, tone quality, construction, valve action, etc. are very good. But, I cannot compare it with the more expensive 186 because I have never played one. My tuba playing is mostly in large orchestral settings, and my S 186 serves me well for that purpose. However, it is not quite as gloriously dark and sonorous as my former tuba, a 5/4 Cerveny 601-5MR.
