Would I get laughed out of the bbs, or tarred and feathered if I suggested that maybe a kid that size be given a baritone and a tuba book? Teach him the tuba fingerings but have him play in the baritone range? He can switch later when/if he grows into it? Unless maybe his parents have spent several thousand $$$ on a tuba when he started? In that case, ...... I dunno, some serious communication must take place somewhere...

When I start beginners, the physical makeup of the kid is important....

There's NO use starting a clarinet player whose fingers go through the holes rather than covering them, or a tbone player that can't reach past 5th position....and how about the little gal with the beautiful teardrop upperlip that wants to play flute?

that's my 2 cents and I guess that's about all its worth.... :o)

see ya
