Maybe it's the horns we're using. I'm playing again after taking 15 years off and I'm seeing the same thing. I could almost never even reach the Bb just below middle C when I was in high school. Now, after playing again for 9 months I'm working on a solo where I have to hit middle C and I can squeeze out a high F just like you.
In my case, it's definitely easier because the horn I'm playing on is much better than the one I used in high school. That one was a brand new Besson (I'm not sure of the model number) which was quite a good horn. By my Miraphone is obviously head and shoulders above that horn.
