I'd venture to say that almost everyone here has done a gig or two like what you've just gone through. I know I have!

My advice (for what it's worth) is to first pat yourself on the back for a job well done and then use this experience to advance your musicianship. Now, the next time your "friend" calls and asks you to help him out as a "favor," after "checking your schedule" you find that you're "busy with another commitment," you're very sorry you can't help out and ask him to try you again next time. Whenever he calls ALWAYS remember to "check your book" and you'll find that you're "busy elsewhere" each and every time he calls to ask another favor. He should get the clue to not call and ask for any more favors from you.

BTW, you might want to find some friends who'll treat you better when asking for a favor from you and your tuba. This guy really doesn't sound like a very good friend to have in the first place.

Cheers,
Bob
