My guess is that this would work out quite satisfactorily. I've had this done to three or four instruments over the years. The more "even" the old satin finish, the nicer they looked. An old 4-valve Buescher euphonium that I had done this way turned out particularly nice indeed.

Yes, if you want it to be completely "redone", a new sandblast job is the only thing that doesn't dictate prohibitive hours of labor. However, newly-done sandblast jobs have a much more "intense" appearance than most satin finishes of old.
