Not only a fair Bennie Goodman tune but a conclusion based on the results of my personal micrometer measurements last night in the basement (admittedly on a saxophone bell but there it is); results pretty much identical to yours. So, in the end, my inane speculation that the 12 ounces of silver was offset by 12 ounces of lacquer is probably wrong unless one has really thick lacquer (maybe that's what the high price of Schilke instruments gets you...). Most Lacquer is clearly way thinner than the thickness of the metal comprising the instrument its applied to. And I apologise to both you and Mr Stofer for starting this, "Man I'm whipped, let me idly regroup my meagre supply of brain cells by klling a few minutes on tubenet...." thread.
