The brass band thing is a definate reason I'd think of doing it. I don't get on well with those Comp Bb's so I'd want to use a front action hooter.
I agree too about the B and E issue - both your point and the fingerings.
If I had the 5th put in after the main slide, I could get the 5th slide in an easy-pull situation around the back of the horn too. Hmm.
