Thanks Rick. I've always wondered what sort of fluid properties traffic flow might possess. Your comments regarding density and compressibility summed up (and verified) what I've spent a lot of time thinking about while stuck in traffic. The radio was broken.
Now that I think of it, this is quite tuba related, as the DC traffic saw me almost miss my NSO audition - after allowing myself 2 1/2 hours to drive about 35 miles, I pulled into the Kennedy Center parking lot 10 minutes before my audition time!
