The Yamaha has a more friendly low register than most F tubas I've played, but I found it lacking in the upper register a bit. Plus, the sound is a little dry for my taste. Overall, its very decent tuba. Personally, I prefer the 3/4 Yamaha F.
The 45slp plays well through the range of the horn and has a great big, vibrant sound. My only complaint about them is that you have to go through a few of them to find a good one. I've played some 45slp's with particulary terrible upper registers and/or intonation. However, many of the newer ones I've played have a fabulous high range and solid intonation to boot. You just have to play through handfull of them. The Yamaha is probably a more consistant instrument. You might also want to have a look at the Meinl Weston 45slz.
Both will serve you very well in a quintet situation.
Just my opinion for what its worth.
