I agree with Mr. Denney here in one aspect in that scales (who am I to agree or disagree with him anyway hehe...I'm just a lowly college student) are in fact helpful in playing fragments of scales in literature. But how often is that, especially in concert band literature. I admit I hate playing scales, but I know they have to be done. To use the sports analogy like stated in the previous post. You may love doing track, but you might hate stretching...still gotta do it...unless you want to get "hurt" in the long run. Please inform your parents as to the comment of your teacher having "just" a bachelor's degree in music education...please let them know that this is no cakewalk...I might be diagreed with...but I am working towards getting this degree right now...and it is no cakewalk.
