The Brass Band of Central Florida, one of the pre-eminent 30 piece "British style" brass bands in the United States, will be performing a concert featuring world-class euphonium soloists Robert & David Childs. David Childs will be performing John Golland's Concerto No1 (for euphonium). This piece was originally written for Robert Childs and was debuted by Robert & the Grimethorpe Colliery Band in 1981 at the Sydney Opera House, Australia. Robert Childs will conduct the band and David on this piece. Robert is Resident Conductor of "Buy as You View Cory Band", #1 Ranked Brass Band in the World. David will also display his indredible virtuosity, terrific sound and expressive playing as the band accompanies him on what promises to be a very memorable program for the brass enthusiast and general concert-goer alike.

David Childs:
David was born in the Yorkshire village of Grimethorpe in 1981. Aged three he began playing the euphonium and was taught and inspired by his father, Robert. In 1996 David became the Junior International Euphonium Champion. At 16 years of age David auditioned for the position of principal euphonium with the world famous Brighouse & Rastrick Band - he was successful, and in 1998 became the youngest ever principal euphonium to be appointed by the band during their 120 year history. Already an Associate of the Royal College of Music, he is currently establishing himself as one of the finest young brass players in the world. As a soloist David has been accompanied by world class ensembles including the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, RNCM Symphony Orchestra, National Swiss Army Band, The Band of the Blues & Royals, The Irish Guards, The Welsh Guards and the Black Dyke Band to name but a few. He has also toured Europe, America, Canada, the Middle East and Bermuda as a soloist and he has given concerto performances in Manchester’s Bridgewater Hall, Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and London’s Regent Hall, as well as giving other solo performances in the Royal Festival Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Barbican Centre and The Royal Albert Hall London.

David has appeared on radio and television on numerous occasions and has also featured on a number of commercial recordings, including a recording of Abide with me with Elton John and the Black Dyke Band and his own debut solo album, ‘Prodigy’.

During 2000 David became the first euphonium player ever to win the title, ‘BBC Brass Young Musician of the Year’. His most recent awards include International Euphonium Player of the Year 2000.



Robert Childs:
Robert’s status as a professional musician encompasses many fields of music making. He is Professor of Euphonium at The Royal Northern College of Music and The University of Leeds where he also conducts the Brass Band. He teaches music at ’St. Marys College, Hull, and is a consultant to Boosey and Hawkes Musical Instruments Ltd. Robert is a tutor and council member to the National Youth Brass Bands of Great Britain and Wales and is also a council member of the National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain.

As a euphonium soloist he regularly gives solo recitals in prestigious halls at home and abroad, he has performed in Carnigie Hall, The Royal Albert Hall, The Grieg Hall, The Royal Festival Hall and Sydney Opera House. He frequently delivers lectures in universities at home and abroad and has several publications to his name. Over the past twenty years he has played with most of Britain’s leading Brass and Military Bands and has made guest appearances with the London Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Halle Orchestra.
