Well CP... this is a loaded question in many ways.

1. Some people grasp concepts easier than others and others require less effort to put themselves on the next level.

2. The definition of "good" is broad to say the least.

3. Practicing 20 hours a day doesn't really mean anything unless you use your practice time wisely...i have a friend who practices upwards of 28 hours a week, but much of his time is not used wisely.


Maybe the thing to remember in this situation is that you should never stop trying, and never stop working to be that "ideal player". You should devote as much time to the instrument as you are serious towards it. I doubt steve mead and patrick sheridan sat down and tried to figure out how much the needed to practice to be the best, the just did it (practiced, worked, breathed music)... and did it because they love the horn
