Yup, that's what I'd expect from bell-up tubas in a "regular" U.S. marching band. The way the drill is usually written these days, they'd need something that's pointing in the same direction as the rest of the brasses (and I can't imagine making them march sideways, which is something I've heard that was being done with helicons on the marching field... what a joke!).

Mirafones are just not meant for field marching anyway. They do fine with a microphone pointed down the bell, but not from fifty yards away.

I've seen other bands from other parts of the world that did well with a player or two on an upright tuba, but they were much more traditional in style.
