I agree completely. I have an old Besson Sovereign (a 968, more-or-less)
that was laquer when I bought it, and which I later had silver-plated.
Frankly, I couldn't tell that the silver plate made any difference in the
way it played. Switching from the Besson mouthpiece that came with the horn
to a Bach 4G bass trombone mouthpiece, on the other hand, made a BIG
difference.
