What you call the British tuba style which was the characteristic bell, that to me looked like an American bell which had been cut off exactly, where the real flare should begin, may have found its inspiration in a not so obvious place.

Aside from the last rounding towards the rim being a very soft (that is large diameter) curve, these British bells have much in common with the Czech bells, which I have called the Cerveny Urtext type.

Both bell types also have one musical (really not very musical) feature in common: they get extremely ugly, when overblown.

The present 981, 982, and 994 models with their 19" bells look much more like Yorks from a century ago.
