I'm a freshman baritone player that's just moved to tuba. The school horn I'm going to use hasn't been played a lot in 12 years but the valves still work fine. It smells and I want to clean it before I start blowing into this thing. My director won't use the budget to get it cleaned. He told me to give it a bath. How would I do this? It's too big to fit in a bathtub and what kind of soap would I use? I've also heard that either hot or cold water will damage the shine on it? Which one? It looks pretty good for being as old as it is. Any help or pointers would be great.
