I personally have a Sony MZ-N10 MD recorder, and a set of the low cost Core Sound mics. the set-up is kinda expensive compared to what you CAN record on, but the quality is pretty awesome. The mics pick up EVERYTHING, especially in a small room. The need for the N10 MD player was because it has a setting for recording with a low sensitivity mic level, that way you can record yourself in a smaller room without the sound over powering the mic. I did a good bit of asking around about what would be best for what I was trying to record. I would advise you to do the same, you might be able to spend much less money. Hope this helps.
