I would say that unless you are a "name" player to start with, your student success rate will be limited to the few naturally gifted students you might be lucky enough to get. A student is always questioning in the back of his/her head how good you REALLY are and whether what you say/demostrate is valid...and a BIG name reputation will help to dispell a lot of this and will get you far, whether or not you a good teacher!

Most kids nowadays are not willing to put in the work needed to be a fine player. So if you are a "big boy" and charging megabucks per hour, there is a lot of motivation built in for the student...and only the "best" players end up studying with the "name" teachers anyways.

This, of course, raises the question, of whether the teacher actually "makes" the student...or vice versa...
