who teaches a lot of woodwind students, to this day refers to one of his long-time saxophone students as the "birthday boy".
Apparently, when my friend showed up at the house for the kid's second-ever lesson a couple of years ago, the kid wasn't there (without notice, obviously) because he "had to attend a birthday party".
