On my 1937 Martin sousa, there are two bits. The first has it's own pinch screw for the second bit. So in other words, one pinch screw on the neck and one on the first bit itself. I have a 1925 model but unfortunately the neck is not original so I can't use it for comparison-apparently a lot of the original necks have been replaced. If the bit you have was designed to receive the mouthpiece you should be able to tell by the end, which should have a final, finished look to it. Hope some of this helps.
