Started on trumpet at 5 (now 46 years ago) and worked on piano at the same time. I'd seriously consider starting on a decent (Olds Ambassador as an example- 75 to 100 bucks at that auction site for a perfectly serviceable one) cornet simply because they're shorter and easier to handle. Piano is a really good start though; the feel for how chords fit that piano playing gives is irreplaceable.
