Sit back children and you will hear a good time story from the
sousapohone player who brought up the rear. O.K. No more rime time!

On July 4th, 1996 I played in the Washington D.C. parade with a live
audence of about one hundred thousand and more waching on T.V.
That was prety cool but on July 4th 1997, I marched in what is called
"The shortest parade in the world" Aptos CA (Aptos is between Santa Cruz
and Monterey) This parade is well attended with about ten thousand
people along the 5/8 mile route.
This was the most rewarding proformance of my life, if only for what one
little kid said. I'll get to that. at the time our conductor was about
75 years old with good viger, but when we played the Beer Barrel Polka
while waiting for step off, he started bouncing arround like a Kid of 35!
The crould did the same and cheared us like heros. We steped off and after
a block I saw some 20 yr. old-ish guys pointing and as we were approching
the last measure of our german march I turnned sidways and honked the old
"over the fience is out" the whole courld applouded and the young guys
hollered "TUBA GUY" as I marched on. Then, a block later, THE KID.
He blew my mind but I'll tell lit last.(I used to be that Kid).
We marched on and an anuncer said on the loudspeaker there's the
Watsonville band. Last year at this time they were in Washington D.C.
where they marched in the national parade and also played at the whitehouse,
it dosnt get any better then that; The Watsonville band. Amaseingly the drum
role off was exactly on cue and it was seamless. We even marched like the
year before which was far above our usual mob. I was in heaven from the
kid's comment but at the end of the parade, we stopped and were surrounded
by the croud and as we again played the Beer Barrel Poka (our stoped in the
midle of a parade song)and ot our supprize THEY STARTED TO SING.
THEY NOT ONLY KNEW ALL THE WORDS, BUT THEY SOUNDED AS STRONG AS THE BAND-AND
REALLY PRETTY!!
It might shound like much but what the little kid had done was to tug
on his mommy's pant leg while pointing at Me,"MOMMY I WANT ONE " !!!

I've had a really adventurous life including real live amniesa but I will
never forget "mommy I want one" as long as I live".

Please don't ask Me about My sousaphone (silver or laquer three valves or four)
or my mouthpeice shllow or deep or or what school I went to I didn't (I only
can't spell 'cause like Enstein and Edison I'm dyslic (and don't care).
JUST THINK ABOUT THE STORY YOU'VE BIN TOLD AND DREAM ABOUT IT WHEN YOU FALL
ASLEEP. It could inspire you. (not all marching is bad)
I just wanted to post somthing for fun !

Brian now you know what "Goodgigs" stands for Kane
