When I wanted to learn tuba I found one in a reasonable price category, and not knowing anything about it or how to play it, I asked for help on this board and Klaus recommended I get it and recommended a mouthpiece. He was absolutely right, and it was great until I wanted to graduate to 4 valves.
I then found a horn on the Internet (not the auction site) and since it was clear over on the other Coast I asked for help on the board again and was given recommendations and information about that particular horn and so I bought it.
Again, the BBS folk were absolutely KEE-RECKT and I love playing this horn.
I have my eye on acquiring a SECOND tuba (!!) and from the information I've received here I'm ready to buy without playing AGAIN!! ;)
