Once you have all of the individual slides set where you want them, you'll likely find the low F and E are still a bit sharp when using the "proper low octave" fingerings (F=134, E=1234). Fortunately, there's a second slide in the 4th valve tubing on the top, to let you adjust for these notes.

For the low F and E, play the same note an octave higher, but use the multi-ledger line low F or E fingerings. Switch back/forth between these "low octave" fingerings and the "proper" ones. Then, see how far you have to pull the "top side" 4th valve slide for proper intonation of the note with the "low octave" fingerings. Then, use this amount of slide pull for the actual low octave note.

The 983 is great in this regard, allowing an easy top-side 4th valve slide pull without adjusting the "normal" position of the actual "tuning" setting of this slide, which is on the bottom of the horn.
