I switched to CC tuba for college, at the insistence of my HS private lessons instructor. Now I am a band director...playing BBb tuba again. For all practical non-professional applications, the BBb tuba makes more sense. You won't find CC tubas in high school situations, unless they are in the hands of very capable players. And if you know trumpet fingerings, then you know CC tuba fingerings...No need to switch just to "learn" them.
I am glad I had CC experience, but I don't think it was necessary at all.
