Sometimes, composers and arrangers write for the tubas so that the upper line is a fifth above the lower line which has the root of the chord. When played in perfect tune (not quite in equal temperment) a difference tone results in the ear of the listener which is one octave below the root note. It is purer than a fundamental would be if only one tuba played it. It is an old organ builders trick. When they lacked room for more long pipes they would gang some together in fifths to get the difference tones. In addition, a summation tone is also produced. You may easily figure its pitch.

These summation and difference tones are not real (they would not show up on a spectrum analyser) but arise in ones ear only. That happens because the ear and/or the brain does not respond linearly to the amplitudes of the sounds that vibrate the stapes.
