You guys had it cushy. The TubaMeisters played 8 shows a day, 30 minutes on and 30 off, in Texas August heat, rain or shine, during our 1992 run at Fiesta Texas. In the rain, we'd wedge our way into the huddled patrons who were jammed into the occasional overhangs, and proceed to deafen them. It's hard to say whether the searing heat or the rain were worse problems. When the park ejected the TCBY stands--that was a low point. The high point was the scenery, especially during the hot months when the water park was open.
As a musician and performer, it was a highlight and a turning point in my own playing. But it wasn't a dream gig.
