I believe that the Besson F tubas that have the "mystique" Were the very small ones made a long time ago (the fifties?). I think they had something like a fourteen inch bell. They were reported to have played well. This was the instrument that the Vaughn-Williams was first performed on (the LSO player at the time's name slips my mind) and the one that the infamous Jacobs recording was performed on (he said he liked it better on the York). Maybe the connection with the Vaughn-Williams is why these horns are of interest. . . I think the new F's (the one you have pictured) are just cut down versions of the Pat Sheridan Eb.
