I purchased a wooden mouthpiece last year for TubaXMas. I was looking for a mouthpiece that wouldn't be so cold to the touch when playing outdoors in December (10F). It fully exceeded my expectations. It was a pleasure to play and my lips never felt cold due to the mouthpiece.

Since it is a dedicated winter outdoor mouthpiece, I don't play it much. But, I would characterize the sound to be less centered with much less fundamental than a normal metal mp. Unfortunately, you might characterize my normal sound with a metal mp to be less centered and lacking a strong fundamental. I was surprised on how well it did sound. It takes a few minutes to adjust to the different properties of wood, but I wouldn't call it a bad sound, but it is clearly not as "clear" as a metal one. FYI - I paid either $20 or $40 bucks for mine.

Hope this helps...
