I have had reasonably good results with a simple snare drum microphone. It has a flat response which (IMHO) is preferable to the "filtered" results obtained with one of the vocal mics.
I use a mic clip that I clip onto the rim of the bell, insulated with a cloth and feed it through an amplification mixer. I use a mini-disc to record from the mixer. This way I can have guitar and other accompaniment as required.
